Tangan merupakan organ vital / penting
bagi manusia sebab sebagian besar aktivitas dikerjakan dengan tangan, misalnya
: Operator tidak akan dapat bekerja jika tidak punya tangan, mekanik dalam
bekerja harus pakai tangan, mengetik harus pakai tangan, dan lain – lain
pekerjaan manusia  yang harus dikerjakan
dengan tangan. Pentingnya organ tangan bagi seorang pekerja bisa kita lihat
dari asumsi besarnya hari kerja yang hilang bila terjadi cacat tetap sesuai
dengan Keputusan Dirjen Binawas Ketenaga Kerjaan No KEP.48/BW/1998, Sebagai
berikut :

Beberapa upaya yang dilakukan untuk
melindungi tangan adalah :
  • Pastikan bagian – bagian mesin yang
    berputar diberikan pelindung misalnya : V belt, gerinda, roda gigi, gergaji dll
    sesuai spesifikasi yang telah ditentukan.
  • Gunakan sarung tangan katun untuk
    melindungi tangan dari benda – benda yang tajam misalnya mengangkat spare part
    yang di bongkar.
  • Gunakan sarung tangan kulit untuk
    melindungi dari bahaya panas misalnya para welder harus menggunakan sarung
    tangan kulit.
  • Untuk melindungi tangan dari bahan
    kimia berbahaya gunakan sarung tangan karet.

Akan tetapi masih banyak kejadian
kecelakaan yang mencederai tangan terutama karena terjepit dan tertimpa suatu
benda hingga mengakibatkan cedera, mengapa hal ini masih terjadi ………??? 
Banyak
hal yang menyebabkanya  antara lain
adalah kurang pengetahuan, kurang komunikasi jika pekerjaan dilakukan secara
kelompok, dan tidak konsentrasi dalam bekerja, ini merupakan penyebab terbanyak
( misalnya karena bercanda, melamun, tekakan mental dan lain – lain ).
